UPDATE! Garry Laing (W3GTL), the member who coordinates ARA durng this event, recently informed us that Racine Racing cancelled the Fort Ritchie Triathlon for 2020.
The Ft. Ritchie Triathlon in Ft. Ritchie, MD -- Sunday, Aug 2, 2020
The ARA provides 2 meter ham radio communications support for the bicycle segment of the race. Volunteers operate along the country roads using their car mobiles or handie talkie. The ARA has assisted with communications for this event for the last few years, and I have always found it a rewarding experience; if you have a few hours on Sunday 8/2/2020 please consider volunteering a few hours of your day. Full disclosure: this event takes place at the same time of the Berryville Hamfest.
For those of you who have previously volunteered for the JFK, the responsibilities are similar -- report things such as first racers through, final racers through, need for pickups, and any medical emergencies.
The approximate time required is about four to five hours, or approximately from 7:30 AM until 11:30 AM-1 PM.
Swag: In the past volunteers have often received T-Shirts for helping.
If you are able to assist, please contact Garry Laing at gtlaing@yahoo.com and put Ft Ritchie in the subject line. If you are registered with W3CWC.ORG, you may also leave a comment indicating your availability to volunteer and you will receive a return email verifying receipt of your comment. This is the first time that the comments have been opened, but figured that because of the short time until the event, it may be helpful.
