A New Net for New Hams

small_ARA_Logo.png

Attention all new hams:

A new amateur radio net just for you!

Beginning January 7, 2021, the Antietam Radio Association will begin a new 2-meter amateur radio net aimed squarely at the newly licensed amateurs, or those who would like a fun, safe place to practice their amateur radio skills, while helping your fellow amateurs, too. The schedule may change, but currently this net will meet on the:

First and third Thursdays of each month at 20:00 (8PM) local time. On the first Thursday the meeting takes place on the 146.94 repeater, while the third Thursday of the month the net is held on the 147.09 repeater. This allows amateurs to check out the different repeaters, and to test which works best for their particular setup.

The ARA "nets" page will soon by updaetd with the new net, as well as a few other resources, hopefully be the end of the weekend.

Some fun with APRS

I've been using the recent downtime to finally start finishing some of the many projects laying around the shack as well as taking time to go over the manuals for my rigs. I picked up an FT1D a few years back when we started to purchase the Fusion machines but have never had the chance to use many of it's features. One of the things that pulled me towards that radio at the time was the integrated APRS.

Field Day Antenna Placement and Config

Nelson, KA2C, one of the Directors of the ARA, took a lot of time and effort in testing antenna placement, and multiple antenna configurations in order to make this coming Field Day one of the most spectacular in memory. Then, Covid-16 (a novel coronavirus) struck the world! ARRL will still be holding Field Day, but it really depends on quite a few things as to how the Antietam Radio Association will hold their Field Day 2020. In the mean time, Nelson was kind enough to send all of his articles for inclusion on the ARA website.  I currently have links that will open the files in a new tab/window, which you can choose to download onto your hard drive for offline viewing. As time permits, I plan on emedding those files into the website, as well as having them as one ZIP file for direct download.
