Upcoming ARA Events

Great Hagerstown Hamfest will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at the Washington County Ag Center, Route 65 S, Hagerstown, MD, 7:00 am - 12:00 pm.  Refreshment stand.  Admission: $7, Vendor tables:  outside under pavilion, $10, inside, $15.

ARRL Field Day will be held from 2:00 pm June 27, 2020 until 2:00 pm June 28, 2020, located behind the Leitersburg Vol Fire Dept.  Come participage with us!

HARC Hike  ARA will provide communications for the annual HARC Hike which starts at Shepardstown and ontinues on the C & O Canal Towpath.  The Date is June 6, 2020.  Herm Niedzielski K2AVA is communications coordinator for ARA.

Ft. Ritchie Triathlon  ARA stands ready to provide communicatins for the Ft. Ritchie Triathlon again this year. More to come as the details are ironed out. Usual start/end times are from 8A till about 12-1P.  Sign up with Garry Laing, W3GTL, to volunteer.

The Hiram Percy Maxim Special Event station(s) will again celebrate HPM's birthday...  Operate from your home QTH and receive contacts from all across the U.S. and Canada.  Sign up with Garry Laing

JFK Ultramarathon  ARA  members will provide communications for the 52nd annual JFK Ultramarathon on Saturday, November 21, 2020 with locations from Boonesboro to the Appalachian Trail then 26 miles on the C & O Canal then on rolling roads to Williamsport, MD.  Take a several hour radio shift to help.  Butch Eigenbrode NI2W can use you as a volunteer.

ARA Christmas Dinner is held each year in mid-December; while our venue for the past few years has been Western Sizzlin' in Hagerstown, we are open to varying it. Let us know if you have any thoughts as to where to hold it in 2020!.

Winlink 2000 Training 2.0!

Cancelled - Ft. Ritchie Triathlon

 

UPDATE! Garry Laing (W3GTL), the member who coordinates ARA durng this event, recently informed us that Racine Racing cancelled the Fort Ritchie Triathlon for 2020.

The Ft. Ritchie Triathlon in Ft. Ritchie, MD -- Sunday, Aug 2, 2020

The ARA provides 2 meter ham radio communications support for the bicycle segment of the race. Volunteers operate along the country roads using their car mobiles or handie talkie. The ARA has assisted with communications for this event for the last few years, and I have always found it a rewarding experience; if you have a few hours on Sunday 8/2/2020 please consider volunteering a few hours of your day. Full disclosure: this event takes place at the same time of the Berryville Hamfest.

WinLink 2000 Training Class:
The Antietam Radio Association is sponsoring a hands-on WinLink 2000 (WL2K) Training Class this Saturday May 11, presented by ARRL Maryland-DC Section Emergency Coordinator Jim Montgomery, WB3KAS.  
WinLink 2000 (WL2K) combines radio and Internet connectivity to allow worldwide email-over-radio capability, with the radio transparent to the user. WL2K figures prominently in emergency and contingency communications support:
